Last year, as we approached Giving Tuesday, the world of donors and asking for support danced before us in nuanced opportunities: say the right words, ask with thanksgiving, inspire others to support us.

From that first challenging effort, a small group of core believers emerged, mostly friends – who probably liked us as much as our mission, and they gave. Their support laid the foundation that provided our first college scholarships for women.

In spring, when we read the first applications, we encountered another challenge: how to provide for all.

The applicants words were humbling, some brought tears, but in each essay were the seeds of hope – hope that someone would believe in them, hope that someone would invest in them, hope that life would be better with education as a path to access.

When we imagined this nonprofit, we reveled in the dream that someday a woman would stand up and say, “I earned a scholarship. I’m a woman of wonder.” I want all of us to see the wonder in ourselves, the wonderful pieces of life that make us who we are, the colorful quilt of resources we have to help others.
